Secrets of a Better HR Manager

It can be said that working in HR is not for the soft-hearted. Some HR professionals agree that It’s just a job where one acts as a middleman between the management and their employees, with every HR personnel expected to empathize yet be firm in implementing the company’s policies and regulations.

As an HR manager, one is expected to deal with various personalities and an unlimited set of issues within the organization every single day, aside from the less stressful creation and implementation of company culture.

Here are some HR manager qualities that can help in becoming a “successful manager for people managers”

Understand your people

It is important for an HR leader to be in touch with his or her team members. After all, professional or even personal matters can influence employee performance – directly or indirectly. Knowing and understanding one’s employees could pay off when it comes to instilling loyalty and trust to the organization.

Align Strategically

HR managers make sure that everyone’s mission for the company is aligned with the company’s actual mission and vision. Remind the team of the company’s mission statement and goals. Are the members’ daily, weekly and monthly job tasks contribute to the company’s mission and vision?

Be Transparent

HR is more or less the bearer of both good and bad company news. Truth and transparency matters. While It might  be difficult to deliver unfavorable news at times, it is more important to value and respect employees by being truthful to them. In return, such honestly will be reciprocated.

Quality over quantity

When it comes to recruitment or retention, an HR manager must be consistent with quality over quantity. A high turnover rate and hiring sprees don’t really help the organization in the long run. Rather, hire candidates based on their potential impact and contribution to the company’s overall goals.

Create solutions, not problems.

In management, problem-solving is considered as one of the more crucial skills than among others in achieving overall success. It’s all about providing solutions and not being a part of the problem. Investing time in learning proper and appropriate problem-solving techniques would guarantee one’s success as a leader and eventually passing them to the team.

Every work and every effort is valuable to one’s career.  Working consistently to enhance one’s leadership skills would ensure that he or she is making the workplace a great and healthy environment for others to cultivate their work ethics. As John Maxwell said, “The more seriously you take your growth, the more seriously your people will take you.”
